Great Birthday Party Decorating Tips

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Whether the party is for an adult or a child, you will want it to be special if you are preparing it for someone that you love. A birthday party is more than just buying some presents and inviting people over. You will want to make it a memorable occasion that will be fondly thought of for years to come.

First of all, you need to get it out of your head that birthday decorating consists of balloons and streamers. It is so much more than that. Going the extra mile need not be exorbitantly expensive, but attention to detail will be appreciated and noticed.

What you are going to need to do is choose a theme. If you are planning the party for a young child, this can be easy, especially if you can ask them which theme they would like. Determining the theme of the party will help you when you are purchasing the color and combinations of the decorations.

Firstly, you need to choose a birthday cake. The cake must be in line with the theme of your party. The cake need not be expensive, just ensure that it is delicious and fresh and maintains the color of the theme. Balloons are always beautiful, and streamers hanging around will be attractive too. Draping a cloth in the color matching your theme over the table will make a big difference, as will arranging some beautiful flowers in the centre of the table. Tying sashes around the chairs in colorful swatches of material or ribbon will contribute to the color theme. If you cannot afford to purchase cutlery, plates and cups in the color of your theme of choice, then you can also hire them. Jumping castles can also be hired as well as many other party accessories.

Another interesting idea is to hang up framed pictures of the person whose birthday you are celebrating. If they are an adult, it can be humorous to display pictures of the special guest as a child. Make sure you do not put up any pictures that may be embarrassing for the guest, as you will want them to be happy on their special day.

If the party is for a child, then your options are endless. What better decoration is there than a jumping castle for the kids to enjoy themselves on. Most jumping castles hiring companies will offer these inflatables in a number of different colors and themes. You can also purchase a piñata, which is an animal shaped object made of crepe paper. The children can hit it with a stick to release all the sweets inside. There are many fun games in line with party themes, and choosing the colors and types of games will help you keep the party looking attractive.

If you are really going all out for the party, you could even suggest that it be fancy dress. Children will enjoy this immensely. The right music must be thought of in advance, as well as which food to serve. With the right decorations in place, you have the perfect setting for a fun, memorable party.

5 Tips to Lower Your Golf Score

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

A golfers skill is measured by how few strokes it takes them to complete a course. The fewer the better. Regardless of what type of competition or game you’re playing, the person who is able to finish a hole with the fewest amount of strokes is going to win.

In this article, I will offer you five golf tips on how to lower your golf score, regardless of what skill level you are currently at.

1. Learn about the physics of golfing. Much of your control in golf will be determined by properly utilizing physics. Familiarize yourself with how they golf ball flies in the air, and what can affect its trajectory path, as well as its distance. This will help you be able to control your shots better, and estimate the distance you will be able to achieve depending upon the weight of your ball and clubs.

2. Strengthen your body. Even though golf is largely a mental game, it pays to be physically strong. If you are strong, it is easier for you to hit the ball further, all other things being equal. In addition, if you’re playing a tournament, it is necessary to have the proper endurance to stay mentally sharp. You get that endurance by being physically fit.

3. Learn your ideal swing. While the perfect swing isn’t the same for everyone, everyone has their own perfect swing. Experiment with yours until you find your sweet spot, and then dissect what makes it work and try to improve upon it.

4. Develop a golf regimen. Golf is a game of consistency. By consistently conditioning yourself to perform at a higher level, it will be easier than training sporadically. Even if it is something simple, do at least one thing every day to improve your game.

5. Develop a golfer’s mindset. So much of the competition in golf comes down to mental toughness. But keeping your mind focused, you will not break concentration at critical moments in your game. This will give you an edge when competing against others.

Tinnitus

Tinnitus Education

Tinnitus is a condition that has been around for many years but seems to be getting worse in these loud time we live in.

Many tinnitus patients report that one of the main tinnitus is exposure to loud noise.

Indeed it is getting harder to escape being exposed to loud noise in this fast paced, loud and busy world we all take for granted these days.

The worst part about tinnitus is that there is no cure! This may seem strange, given that so many millions of people suffer form tinnitus.

Tinnitus Causes

In most cases tinnitus is self inflicted, especially with the growing popularity of devices like the Apple iPod and similar MP3 players. This trend is certainly set to continue as these devices become more popular and the make things worse, just about every cell phone these days is also an MP3 player.

These devices are extremely popular amongst students, sportsman and women and commuters. The lat mentioned typically will use the MP3 player as a means of passing time and masking the noise and clutter all around them as they commute.

The problem, because the trains, buses and traffic is so loud, they need to increase the volume levels and this is where the damage starts occurring and tinnitus cause rears it’s ugly head.

Most folk don’t even know about tinnitus or the tinnitus causes and how debilitating it can be until they already have it, at which time it is too late obviously!

So it is my opinion the best tinnitus cure is education! Teach the kids about it at school and college much the same as is happening with sex education! We talk about sex with the kids so why not discuss tinnitus with them.

Whatever Happened To The Stomach Vacuum?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

How about a stomach exercise you can do while watching TV or sitting in front of a computer at work. This is an exercise that will tighten your abs in a dramatic way in just a few short weeks. It’s not uncommon for people to lose 2 to 3 inches in that time. The stomach vacuum is just that exercise. It’s a long forgotten stomach flattening exercise that can be done just about at any time and anywhere.

The main muscle that is engaged by this exercise is the transverse abdominal muscle which runs horizontally underneath you oblique muscles. The transverse abdominis muscle is basically what holds everything in, so by doing this one simple exercise you are tightening the abs and shrinking the waistline at the same time. Another reason to strengthen the transverse ab muscle is that it helps to eliminate lower back pain by stabilizing the spine and pelvis areas.

So what is the stomach vacuum? It’s pretty much what it sounds like. If you have ever sucked your stomach in for any reason, then you were basically doing the stomach vacuum. Now to actually do this stomach exercise correctly you need to suck your tummy in and picture pulling your belly button up and to the back toward your spine. Try to pull it in just as far as you can go and remember to breathe. It doesn’t matter if your sitting, kneeling or standing on your head. The stomach vacuum can be done in any position.

To start with try and hold it for 15 seconds then relax for about a minute. Now repeat it 2 more times. Over time you will want to increase the length of time you hold the vacuum position and increase the number of sets you do as well. Another option with this particular tummy flattening exercise is just to do it through out the day. Since you are not noticeably moving around you can sneak a set or two in at any time.

Do these everyday over the next couple of weeks and you will be absolutely amazed by the results.

A Comprehensive Education in Balloons

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Introduction

When you think of the word ‘Balloons’ what thoughts appear in your mind? Is it simple balloons you blow up for children’s parties, or balloons that fly off on their own, or the special balloons for key events like the ones produced for the wedding of Charles and Diana? There are now so many different types of balloons on the market that you can get almost anything for everything any event you like.

So what exactly is a balloon? One definition defines a balloon as a flexible bag which you fill with air or some other type of gas, such as helium or hydrogen. The early balloons would have been made with non stretch material but modern balloons are made with latex so they have great elasticity and can be pumped up to much larger sizes.

History of Balloons

The most primitive known balloons were made in Central and Southern America by the Aztec Indians. They were made out of the bowels of cats which were carefully cleaned then turned inside out. They were sewn with special vegetable thread that had the property of sticking to itself when dried in the sun and creating an almost airtight seal. The balloons were then made into air filled model animals and burned at the top of the Aztec pyramid as an offering to the sun god. (The first example of balloon modelling). A Portuguese priest, Bartolomeu de Gusmao, held the first public exhibition of a balloon in the Portuguese Court in Lisbon in 1709 which was probably made from an animal bladder that stretched when filled with air. The rubber balloon was invented in 1824 by a Michael Faraday and was filled with hydrogen to be used in his experiments with hydrogen. But the familiar latex balloon did not appear until 1847.

The early rubber balloons were sold in America in Parks and Circuses for a penny each. Although the latex balloon was manufactured in London in the mid 1800’s the mass production of them did not appear until much later in 1931.

As technology has become more advanced so has the world of balloons. Now balloons can be made from rubber, latex, polychloroprene or nylon. They can be filled with air, helium, hydrogen or water. Filling the balloon with air can be done with the mouth, a manual pump(such as a hand pump), or electric inflator or with compressed gas. The balloons are used for many differing purposes, and decorated in numerous ways to fit the event.

Some balloons are purely for decoration, others are ideal for specialist purposes because of their low density and relatively low cost. The balloon’s properties have led to them being used in a wide range of other applications in the areas of meteorology, military defense, medical treatment, and transportation.

Types of Balloons

Party Balloons

The most common and familiar types of balloons are the party balloons. These are usually bought in small packets and blown up with a pump to create a festive balloons scene for children’s parties and other kinds of celebratory events where they can make all the difference.

These days I often see a cluster of balloons at the entrance to a house or hall to indicate where the party is being held. The balloons come in many different sizes and colours and can have printing on the face which expands as the balloon is inflated. Party Balloons are mostly made of natural latex tapped from rubber trees. The rubber’s elasticity makes the volume variable. Balloons filled with air usually hold their size and shape much longer.

Helium Balloons

Balloons which float upwards are filled with the gas helium which is lighter than air. So for an event where balloons are let off into the atmosphere, they will need to be helium balloons. Helium filled rubber balloons normally only retain their buoyancy for a few days. The enclosed helium atoms are smaller than the pores in the latex through which they escape. To increase the float time of a helium balloon for a week or more, the inside of the balloons can be coated with a special polymer solution to reduce the leakage of the helium.

Water Balloons

The water balloons are often smaller than regular balloons and made from thin rubber so that they can be easily broken. They are filled with water and are intended for children to throw at each other as a game or practical joke with the aim of getting each other wet. They may also be used in competitions or games.

Foil Balloons

In the late 1970s along came the foil balloon. These are made of thin non-stretch metalized plastic film or mylar. They are much more expensive and made an appearance at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana causing quite a stir. These balloons have attractive shiny reflective surfaces and can be printed with color pictures, logos and patterns to customize them. The most important attribute of metalized nylon for balloons is its ability to keep the helium gas from escaping for several weeks because it is less permeable. Foil balloons then have the advantage of being light weight, longer-lasting, with increased buoyancy. They are perfect for parties, in-store decorations, special celebrations and for gifts.

Animal-Shaped Balloons

Metalized nylon balloons can be cut into the three dimensional shapes of animals and then printed to represent the chosen animal. Once inflated the balloons make very bright, decorative items for gifts or may be used as a theme for a special event. Screen printing is used to create the designs for these spectacular pieces.

Balloon Modelling and Balloons in Art

Balloon modelling is a popular entertainment for children and adults alike. A Balloon artist twists and ties inflated tubular balloons into shapes resembling animals or even people. Sometimes they are called balloon sculptures, not to be confused with those cited below. When I have watched these artists at work I have often wondered why the balloons don’t burst when they are working.

The type of Latex used for balloon sculptures is made of extra-stretchy rubber so that they can be tied and twisted without bursting. Initially Latex balloons of the tiny tubular kind are extremely hard to inflate so often the sculptor uses a pump at first.

Balloon Sculptures

Professional party decorators may use hundreds of helium balloons to create balloon sculptures. These sculptures are often constrained because of the round shape of the balloons to simple arches or walls but on occasion more ambitious “sculptures” have been attempted. Sometimes balloons are used as table decorations for special events which will have 3 or 5 balloons to each bouquet. The decoration will usually include curled ribbon with an added weight to stop the balloons from floating away.

Professional balloon party decorators use electronic equipment to enable the exact amount of helium to fill the balloon. For non-floating balloons air inflators are used. Professional quality balloons differ from most retail packet balloons as they are bigger in size and made from 100% biodegradable latex.

Balloon Drops

I am sure you will have been to a party or dance where at the end of the evening hundreds of balloons fall from the ceiling to mingle amongst the participants. This is known as a balloon drop and is often performed at New Year’s Eve celebrations or at political rallies and conventions. It is a relatively low cost way of making a festive atmosphere at the party climax, so everyone goes away feeling they have had a really good time.

If you want to create a balloon drop for your own event you will need to set up a large plastic bag or net overhead, which is suspended at a certain height. This is then filled with air-inflated balloons so that they will fall onto the target area below when the balloons are released. You will also need to develop a mechanism for releasing the balloons. Balloon drops may also be performed at many celebrations, including graduations and weddings.

Balloon Rockets

As a child I am sure you played the game of blowing up a balloon then letting it go while watching it speed around the room making a rude noise with everyone falling about laughing. These are called balloon rockets and I remember being enthralled and wondering how they worked. When the mouth of the balloon is released, the greater pressure of air inside forces its way out and the elasticity of the balloon contracts causing the balloon to be propelled forward. This is fundamentally how a rocket works. The balloon can also be filled with gases other than air, with similar results. Besides being simple toys, balloon rockets are a widely used teaching device to demonstrate physical principles and the functioning of a rocket. The balloon rocket is often used to demonstrate Newton’s third law in physics.

Balloon Publicity

Publicity at major events is often done with balloons releases where a message from the company is printed onto the balloons. Where large quantities of balloons are required professional UK balloon delivery firms can be contacted for supplies.

Balloon Releases

In Australia they had a fund raising event on 18th April for Make-A-Wish Day. The 5,000 released balloons make a spectacular sight as they rise across the bay marking the number of wishes granted since 1985.

If you are planning a balloon release or race of more than 5,000 balloons, it is a requirement that you apply in writing for permission to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at least 28 days in advance. The CAA also like to be informed of balloon releases up to 5,000. A form can be obtained by calling either the NABAS office on 01989 762 204 or the Airspace Utilisation Section of the CAA on 020 7453 6599

Because of concerns about the bearing on the environment of large numbers of balloons being released, the NABAS – The Balloon Association have produced a code of conduct which can be found on their website at www.nabas.co.uk

Safety and Environmental Concerns

Balloons are made of natural rubber latex (NRL) which is a natural product coming from rubber trees that are grown in certain areas of the tropics. These are not trees that are cut down to produce the NRL. The NRL is obtained by tapping from mature trees and is a sustainable crop providing employment for many agricultural workers in some of the poorest areas of the world.

As a consequence of NRL cultivation and the consumption of latex products, the planting and maintenance of rubber tree plantations helps towards the prevention of tropical rainforest deforestation. This contributes significantly to the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, produced by industrialised nations and a major source of global warming.

Research shows that latex balloons which are completely natural coming from the Hevea tree degrade faster than oak leaves. Oxidation occurs first in the breakdown of latex and it begins within an hour of a balloon being inflated. As the decaying process is by natural exposure nutrients are released into the soil. Most balloons used in releases today are made of bio-degradable latex.

An estimated 90/95% of balloons released rise to an altitude of 5 miles, at which height the cold will cause the balloon to become brittle and shatter into miniscule pieces. The small fragments then floating back to earth to degrade in the ground. Balloon fragments are unlikely to cause harm if accidentally ingested. This is because latex and the dyes used in latex colouring are non-toxic.

Printed latex balloons are a fantastic, low-cost and environmentally friendly way of advertising at promotions and events. All latex balloons supplied by B-Loony, the UK’s largest printed balloon manufacturer, are completely biodegradable. The code of conduct produced by NABAS for balloon releases gives advice to ensure the protection of our environment.

Manufacture of Balloons

Balloons are manufactured by their millions every day in many countries. The rubber is collected as liquid from a rubber tree and then sent to the factories where the liquid goes through a series of treatment processes. These processes include shaping and colouring operations and testing for quality. The results are thousands balloons which provide a splash of colour and party atmosphere at celebrations and conferences or any event where a large number of people gather.

Conclusion

Toy balloons have been a source of pleasure and excitement throughout the world for many years. They have provided hours of entertainment and interest for children as well as being an educational resource. Non toy Balloons are being used for science, medicine and travel and are invaluable in helping us to learn about our world. Balloons I am sure will remain very alive and active on the world’s scene for many years to come.

A Few Ways Manual Lymph Drainage can Help Your Issues

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Are you bothered by sinusitis that has been sore and gives facial pressure to your face? Or maybe you don’t like the way your leg looks because of edema. Have you been plagued by insomnia for several days and getting any sleep has become a long lost dream? Manual Lymph Drainage is the best, therapeutic approach in relieving these issues.

Manual Lymph Drainage has been known since Dr. Vodder together with his wife created this massage technique in 1932. This Danish physician believed that physical manipulation over the lymphatic vessels can help in relieving several illnesses. This approach was first applied for patients who had swollen necks. The swollen necks or extremities have been associated with inadequate lymph circulation. The massage techniques involves very easy movements, usually circular motion.

Here are five ways how Manual Lymph Drainage can give relief from your ailments. First of all, Manual Lymph Drainage can help in relieving edemas. Edemas or swelling of the extremities had been a problem not just for older people but even for some younger people. But how do they acquire this type of condition. Let us go back to science by recalling what the lymph system is. The Lymph system of the body acts as the “maintenance department” of your body. Lymph is the fluid that acts as a waste collector that continuously travels along your veins to gather up toxins to detoxify and keep your immune system in good shape. Once one component of the lymph system has malfunctioned, the lymph movements will slow down. This will lead to accretion of toxins and will cause swelling. Stimulation will make it possible for the lymph to circulate better and remove the swelling.

Manual Lymph Drainage also detoxifies your bodies. Since the massage makes it possible for the lymph to move properly, it regulates the collection and disposal of toxins. Thus keeping us healthy in the process and preventing our bodies from future accumulation of these foreign substances.

If you have been having an issue with rhinitis or sinusitis, Manual Lymph Drainage is a good way of relieving them. The same principle with the edema applies. Manipulation will lessen the soreness of the sinus and thus lessen facial pressure.

Frequent headaches are also treated with Manual Lymph Drainage. Manual Lymph Drainage will give relief from pain while Connective Tissue Manipulation ensures that the process is going to prevent the future recurrence of the headache. Manual Lymph Drainage is always done with Connective Tissue Manipulation as the processes work hand in hand with each other. Connective Tissue Manipulation is the process of massaging the connective tissues of our bodies to lessen the tension and tightness. This two work hand-in-hand to give us relief from our ailments.

And aside from these physical ailments, Manual Lymph Drainage is also helpful when it comes to relaxation and insomnia. The relaxing Manual Lymph Drainage manipulation ensures that you recieve a natural, no side effect aid to getting to sleep.

Manual Lymph Drainage is a holistic approach when it comes to relieving ailments. It targets not just our ailment but aids in cleansing our body and provides relaxation as well. If you are not comfortable taking different types of medications for the pain, then Manual Lymph Drainage is your best option when it comes to relieving your pain.

Ideas For Preparing Crabs at Home

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Do you know crab soup? In my friend’s country, the Philippines, he call this amazing soup as ’sopang mais ‘and in our country it is called as crab soup. It has to be preapred the day that it is used, and has always been a food used in parties and special occasions. You can make it much more delicious by blending in crab, egg whites, and creamed corn. You even have the option of tofu (vegetarian) crab meat. Some of the interesting facts about this are:

Ingredients: parsley or cilantro, 4 cloves of garlic, 2 cups milk, water, 1/2 lb of crab meat, salt and pepper. Corns can be added, If you want what I feel is the most beautiful and favorite thing. It is always made on my birthday and I share it with my friends. With everyone so concerned about the problem of losing weight and trying to be healthy, the best method is to change the foods we eat.

Get rid of all that oil and fat in your diet, and get rid of artificial ingerdients and fast foods that have been shown to be bad for your heart and your waist. If you are looking for foods that not only taste good but are the healthiest, you should try eating some seafood items. They can cost a little more, but if you buy them in season they don’t have to cost an arm and a leg.

Crab salad is an example of a tasty and healthy dish. You can switch to using light salad dressing or sour cream if the recipe calls for it. This will cut way down on the fat and calories. Use the freshest ingredients you can find. To add extra flavor to your meal, you could add onions, diced celery, water chestnuts, bell peppers. And of course, get the best and freshest crab meat. The flavor of crab goes a long way so it doesn’t take much to make your salad zing with the taste of delicious crab.

One of my favorite online seafood stores is Amazon.com. Their online grocery section is spectacular. The primary reason for this is that they essentially have hundreds of suppliers under the ‘Amazon’ umbrella, making ordering gourmet to mundane seafood items online a snap via their one online store. They have almost any food you could ask for, from clams in jars to one-serving tuna packages to more unusual selections. Personally, I don’t order their frozen stuff, simply due to the risk of thawing during transport. Not taking the necessary precautions, will create a risk of high quality frozen seafood spoiling or being unsafe to eat. One of the fun things about Amazon is the ability to order crab cake mix, crab mallets, the seafood cook book, and even the frozen crabs (if you dare) or crab cakes in a can from one online portal. That’s so much easier than having to shop all over for it.

Mechanical Bulls – Safe and Fun!!!

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

No matter what kind of party you are having a mechanical bull rental is sure to add some excitement. Announce you have this activity available and watch the crowds develop. Many people are curious about just how to ride a mechanical bull. There actually is an art to managing to stay on for any length of time. A lot of a person’s ability to stay on the bull depends on how much experience they have with bull riding and what level the mechanical bull is set at. There are different settings available to adjust the mechanical bull’s speed and/or bucking ability. For an experienced bull rider, crank the settings on high and let them put their experience to test. If you are letting children ride the bull, then put the settings on low and gradually increase to let them feel like they are mastering the art.

You have seen them on television and you have seen them at county fairs; however, it is now time to see a mechanical bull at your next party! Whether you are having a birthday party, graduation party, or a free for all adult party, mechanical bulls will surely increase the fun factor. Mechanical bulls are so much fun you will wonder how parties existed before their creation. They add a great source of entertainment for everyone ages 10 to 100. They are available to rent at different rates depending on the size, style ad availability or you can even purchase one to own.

When you have a mechanical bull rental Philadelphia you do not have to have it set up for competition. You will get hours of fun just watching people laugh as they get jerked around by the bull only to eventually fall. The only problem you face when renting a mechanical bull is, your party attendants may not want to leave when the party is over!

Mechanical bull riding is safe entertainment for all ages. The mechanical bull rental Philly is surrounded by pads or air mattress material. The laughter and fun increases as each person falls to the floor! The bull is set up to jerk and sling around just as a real bull would. The rider must learn to get in position and hold on tight. The longer a person stays on the harder the mechanical bull should start to buck. Eventually the rider must figure out how to get off. Thankfully, in the mechanical bull world there isn’t a bull to stomp back on top of the rider.

How To
